Electronic Arts’ latest video game based on Lucasfilm’s beloved space opera, Star Wars Squadrons, is now available to buy. The shooter, developed by EA Motive, simultaneously hit PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Support for PSVR, SteamVR, and Oculus Rift is part of the package, as well. Anyone playing on buying the Xbox Series X/S or the PS5 in the weeks ahead will be pleased to learn full backwards compatibility has already been implemented.

Star Wars: Squadrons places you in the cockpits of spacecraft from the iconic X-wing and TIE fighter fleets. The game is also part of the new, Disney-approved Star Wars lore and takes place near the end of the extensively covered Galactic Civil War. Besides a handcrafted single player campaign, Star Wars: Squadrons also offers multiplayer battles for up to ten players in a typical 5-vs-5 fashion.

Throughout the game, you’ll be able to unlock new pilots, weapons, shields, and other spacecraft components. Interestingly enough, EA Motive said they have no plans for introducing any DLC further down the road. Instead, they have actually already moved on to new projects, studio officials said last month.

By all accounts, Star Wars: Squadrons was almost a happy accident instead of a AAA game that EA planned years in advance.
