Google made quite an announcement earlier today, proclaiming it has defeated all manners of scam callers across the globe following literally decades of people falling victim to such criminals. The company says it achieved this via Verified Calls, which is how it calls the latest feature of the Android operating system that will soon be rolling out to pretty much all modern mobile devices across the U.S., Canada, and beyond.
The solution fixates on impersonators trying to perform phishing attacks or tricking unsuspecting users into sending them untraceable payments via cryptocurrency and other such means. Moving forward, any business calling a supported Android smartphone will labeled with a logo, name, verification symbol, and reason for calling right on the calling screen – disclosing all of that info before you even begin to decide whether to pick up.
In other words, any call not accompanied by such a transparent report card will automatically lack all credibility in regards to claims the caller on the other end represents a legitimate business. In effect, even the least tech-savvy among users should, therefore, be able to easily tell apart scam callers from actual corporate contacts, Google said. The feature in question is being released as a native ability of the default Phone app from Google.
