GCV Expands Canon Lens Portfolio In 4K Broadcasting Bet

Canon UHD Digisuper Series

Live-streaming veterans over at Game Creek Video are expanding their already exhaustive support for Canon lenses with the addition of UHD-DIGISUPER 122 and UHD-DIGISUPER 111. The move is essentially yet another vote of confidence for 4K broadcasting as both the present and future of real-time television.

GCV’s support is crucial for Canon seeing how the said company is a massive player in the U.S. sports broadcasting. And when it comes to high-margin businesses, there’s nothing quite like the good ol’ US of A. Which is why Canon is eager to service U.S. broadcasters with as many new professional lenses as it can mass-produce. Both of today’s additions are conventional field box zoom lenses, but optimized for 4K content.

The triple-digit numbers in their names refer to magnification factors. For the more technical readers, the DIGISUPER 111 has a focal length varying from 8.3mm to 925mm, whereas its counterpart offers an 8.2mm-1,000mm range. In other words, these modules have been primarily designed for massive events requiring long-distance capture.

But you can bet your entire Canon lens collection that there will be a non-zero number of snobbish bird watchers buying these up just so they can flex their wallet muscles on online forums.
